Room 13 is a non-profit organis ation that uses art and creativity to develop and empower children to beco me the best that they can be. Established locally in 2004\, Room 13 has be en running for 15 years across three provinces (Free State\, Gauteng & Mpu malanga) in six disadvantaged schools.
We aim to create a safe place where children can go ever y day afterschool\, to develop their self-esteem and sense of purpose. The principle is that any child can be an artist and every child is welcome.< /span>
The initiative consis ts of a network of student-run art studios\, each led by an Artist-in-Resi dence who facilitates the activities\, based on their own skills and the i nterests of the children. These activities can range from drawing\, painti ng\, printing\, sculpture to theatre and performance arts.
We also encourage business and entre preneurial skills through the day-to-day management of studio and through exhibitions and the selling of their creative products.
